Role: Support worker for Holiday Support
Location: Edinburgh
Hours: 8.30 to 15.30 during school holidays excluding Christmas, with 8 AM start on Mondays.
Salary: £12.50 per hour

About the Role

Working in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council we provide holiday support services at Oaklands School for children with medically complex care needs.

We are now recruiting for 1:1 Support Workers to join our team to deliver inclusive play activities such as arts & crafts, baking, sensory, indoor and outdoor play. Assisted by another staff member, you will be required to undertake personal care which may require the use of hoists, and other tasks associated with a child’s particular care needs.

The Support Worker role is required during Edinburgh school holidays and there is the opportunity to work for only part of the period. We provide extensive training, a welcoming team and benefits such as life assurance.

Key Responsibilities

To be a part of a team of full-time, part-time, seasonal employees to:

  • Play an active role in the set up, delivery and development of play activities at Holiday Support
  • Be fully conversant with the care plans of the child you’re supporting, ensuring you follow the guidance and seek advice appropriately if unsure
  • With support from your Room Lead update the care plan with your observations
  • Ensure your approach has the child and/or young person at its centre
  • Encourage and enable children and young people to play and socialise in an inclusive way
  • To assist and undertake personal care with individual children when required, which may involve the use of hoists and or additional equipment
  • Maintain and develop professional relationships with parents, carers and other organisations
  • Operate and maintain the facilities in a safe, clean and tidy manner

Essential Qualities and Experience

  • Experience of working with children and young people in a play or youth work setting or alternatively in a home environment
  • An empathetic approach with the ability to build trust in others
  • An ability to work in a flexible manner, as an individual and as part of a team
  • An interest and willingness to learn
  • The ability to register successfully with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), and undertake an acceptable PVG check

Desirable Qualities and Experience

  • Experience of working with children and young people with a range of disabilities
  • Experience of liaising with parents, carers and other professionals
  • Working towards or in receipt of an SVQ 3 or higher in a relevant discipline
  • Moving and Handling training and experience
