Role: Support Worker (Respite Club)
Location: Edinburgh
Hours: Set hours or Sessional Roles available (Friday & Saturday 1:00 – 6:30 pm)
Salary: £12.20 per hour

About the Role

We are now recruiting for 1:1 Support Workers who will work as members of a team to deliver inclusive, social, recreational play activities such as arts & crafts, indoor and outdoor play.

The Support Worker role is required on Friday and Saturday afternoons. Candidates who are only able to do the Friday or Saturday are  welcome to apply. This opportunity is for either contracted and sessional hours. We provide extensive training, a welcoming team and benefits such as life assurance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Play an active role in the set up, delivery and development of play activities at Holiday Support.
  • Ensure an approach which has the child and/or young person at its centre.
  • Encourage and enable children and young people with a range of disabilities and medical conditions to play and socialise in an inclusive way.
  • Maintain and develop awareness of ongoing developments in play work, youth work and related areas.
  • Work with children and young people as individuals and as part of a team.
  • Maintain and develop professional relationships with parents, carers and other organisations.
  • Maintain the facilities in a safe, clean and tidy manner.
  • Act in accordance to The Support Worker Handbook.
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings and training sessions as appropriate.
  • To support Room Lead / Team Leads in organising events at the Holiday Support Service.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties as become necessary from time to time

Essential Qualities and Experience

  • Experience of working with children and young people in a play or youth work setting or alternatively in a home environment.
  • A demonstrable understanding of and commitment to the values of play and play work and youth and youth work and a commitment to put equal opportunities and the rights of the child into practice
  • A proven ability to work in a flexible manner, as an individual and as part of a team
  • Experience of liaising with parents, carers and other professionals
  • Strong communication skills
  • The ability to register successfully with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), and undertake an acceptable PVG check

Desirable Qualities and Experience

  • Experience of working with children and young people with a range of disabilities
  • Working towards or in receipt of an SVQ 3 or higher in a relevant discipline
  • Moving and Handling training and experience
  • Knowledge of Epilepsy and emergency medication
  • Computer literacy
  • First Aid training
