Community engagement volunteer As volunteer, you can gain new experiences and insights, and learn new and transferable skills, whilst knowing you are making a valuable contribution. Our brand new speaking volunteer role will be crucial as our services continue to expand. This role will open up new doors and build further connections in the local community by attending talks or cheque collections, sharing updates about The Yard and our plans for the future. What activities will I be involved in? Delivering short talks about The Yard in your local community Identifying new opportunities to speak to new groups through your local knowledge about your community Arranging talks or aiding the Fundraising team to identify new areas What skills and ability will I need to fulfil this role? An outgoing and friendly personality who has an interest in meeting new people. Passion and confidence about speaking about The Yard, our services and disability. Good communication skills and positive enthusiasm for The Yard. How much time will I need to offer? This role will be a flexible depending on dates and times of the talks. Some talks will be in the evening so this might require volunteering in the evening. Ideally you would deliver at least four talks per year. Where will I be based? Out in the local community (Edinburgh, Dundee, Fife) What are the benefits to me? Gaining experience of speaking in front of groups of people Having fun! What ongoing learning and support/guidance will I receive? You will be invited to attend training and shadow events where you will learn more about this role and shadow a member of the Fundraising team. It is important to us that you feel part of The Yard community and we want you to feel confident and safe in your volunteering role. You will be invited to come along to a volunteer induction which will cover the basics on Health and Safety, Child Protection, Data Protection and organisational values of The Yard. We run a number of training courses in house, which you are welcome to attend so that you are developing your knowledge of the services we provide. Our fundraising team will be in regular contact and will meet you as often as is needed to provide support and guidance. What are the benefits to The Yard families? As a growing charity we are looking to continue to increase our awareness in the community, driven by volunteers and people who understand how important it is to be part of a community. Is there anything else I should know? You have to be at least 16 years old to apply for this role. We will pay your out of pocket expenses in line with The Yard’s volunteer policy.
