As volunteer, you can gain new experiences and insights, and learn new and transferable skills, whilst knowing you are making a valuable contribution.

On a Sunday all families are welcome to The Yard from 10-4pm. Our Sunday Funday service costs £6 for two hours and all money raised goes back into our services for disabled children Monday – Saturday. As part of the day, we also have coffee, tea, cakes and savoury snacks available in our kitchen and we would love some volunteers to help us out in this role.  

What activities will this role involve?

  • Welcome families into the kitchen and help them buy tea/coffee and cakes or savoury snacks.
  • Keep our supplies topped up and displayed appealingly.
  • Take payment and hand out change if needed.
  • Collect feedback from our families about our services and talk to them about other ways that they might be able to get involved in The Yard.

What skills and ability will I need to fulfil this role?

  • Good communication skills and customer service.
  • Friendly, approachable and positive attitude.
  • Passion and enthusiasm for The Yard and the services we provide.
  • Likes meeting new people.

How much time will I need to offer?

  • A couple hours on a Sunday (could be morning or afternoon).

What ongoing learning and support/guidance will I receive?

  • It is important to us that you feel part of The Yard community and we want you to feel confident and happy in your volunteering role. You will be invited to come along to a short induction that will cover the basics on Health and Safety, Child Protection, Data Protection plus any training relevant to your role.
  • Our Sunday Funday coordinator will be in regular contact and will meet you as often as is needed to provide support and guidance.

Is there anything else I should know?

  • You have to be at least 16 years old to apply for this role. 
  • We will pay your out of pocket expenses in line with The Yard’s volunteer policy.
  • Able to pass a Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) check or Disclosure as appropriate.
