Gardening volunteer As volunteer, you can gain new experiences and insights, and learn new and transferable skills, whilst knowing you are making a valuable contribution. What activities will I be doing? General gardening: weeding, clearing leaves, tiding. Assisting with planting and the development of new areas. Keeping paths and the car park area clear. Engaging with families to get them involved in the outside space. What skills and ability will I need for this role? An enjoyment of gardening. Friendly and enthusiastic towards our organisation, space and families. Flexible and adaptive to changes that might occur with our play space. How much time will I need to offer? This volunteering role can be flexible to fix in with you but will depend on the capacity of the team and the services that we have in. Where will I be based? Edinburgh, Dundee or Fife What are the benefits to me? Getting more involved in a local charity and helping continue to provide a fun and safe place for disabled children to play and make friends. Having fun and whilst learning new skills. Meeting new people and engaging with families. What ongoing learning and support/guidance will I receive? It is important to us that you feel part of The Yard community and we want you to feel confident, happy and safe in your volunteering role. You will be invited to come along to a short induction that will cover the basics on Health and Safety, Children Protection, Data Protection and the organisational values of The Yard. Our team will be in regular contact and will meet you as often as is needed to provide support and guidance. What are the benefits to The Yard families? Is there anything else I should know? ou have to be at least 16 years old to apply for this role. This role will involve undertaking physical work. We will pay your out of pocket expenses in line with The Yard’s volunteer policy. Able to pass a Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) check or Disclosure as appropriate.
