Volunteer application

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at The Yard. Please complete this form if you would like to volunteer with The Yard and have seen a specific opportunity. If you haven’t spotted a role but are still interested in volunteering or have any questions about volunteering for The Yard please call us on 0131 476 4506 or email [email protected]. Please also get in touch if you require any support completing this form or if you would like us to send you a paper copy. Once you have applied, we will be in touch to arrange a time to meet you to have an informal chat about our volunteering process and the role you are interested in.

A couple of things before you start

As part of our volunteer recruitment and selection process, we have requirements in relation to police checks. Volunteer roles that involve direct contact with children and families (such as play volunteer roles or front of house roles) require membership of the PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) scheme, which involves a full background check. All other roles require a Basic Disclosure. Further information about this process will be discussed when we meet you for a chat at The Yard. If you have a criminal record you might still be able to volunteer, further details at the end of the form.

About you
Unspent convictions

As part of our volunteer recruitment process, we require that you disclose any unspent convictions below. You are not required to disclose any convictions which are considered ’spent’ under the Rehabilitation of Offender Act. You can see whether your conviction is spent, by looking at this information: https://www.mygov.scot/scotland-works-for-you, or you can seek assistance from Citizens’ Advice Scotland or a solicitor.

Having a criminal record will not automatically exclude you from volunteering. Each case will be considered on its merits and in relation to the particular circumstances and role.

If you tick yes, we will be in contact to discuss the details with you. As with all of your information, this is treated in strictest confidence and in accordance with our privacy policy.
