Edinburgh Sessional Playworker

Join us to help improve the lives of disabled children and their families by becoming a member of our sessional play team. We are recruiting Sessional Playworkers for The Yard Edinburgh. If you are someone who understands the value of play, is creative, a real team player, and has experience working with disabled children and young people, we want to hear from you.

About this role

The purpose of this post is to contribute to the planning and delivery of sessions, incorporating clubs run solely by The Yard, and those operated in conjunction with partner organisations. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver, with other members of our play team, a range of inclusive, social, recreational and adventure play activities, including arts and crafts, loose parts play, etc. We also work with local schools and engage in community events on occasion.

In this post, you will be a member of a team of full-time, part-time and sessional staff, and volunteers, employed to:

  • Ensure an approach with the child or young person at its centre
  • Encourage and enable children and young people with a range of disabilities to play and socialise in an inclusive way
  • Maintain awareness of ongoing developments in playwork, youth work and related areas
  • Work with children and young people as an individual and part of a team, within The Yard and outside our premises as appropriate
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with parents, carers and other organisations
  • Operate and maintain facilities in a safe, clean and tidy condition in accordance with The Yard’s policies

About The Yard

In return, you will be working with a values-led organisation, where your colleagues are committed to delivering our purpose. We offer regular development, flexible working and a culture where we strive to recognise each person for their contribution. Read more about some of the benefits available to people who work at The Yard.
