Where and when?

We offer play sessions to support children with disabilities aged 0-5 and their families at The Yard Edinburgh on Mondays from 1:30pm to 3pm, and on Fridays from 10am to 11:30am, during term time. Our early years members have exclusive use of The Yard for these sessions.

Who is it for?

Our early years service is open to all children with additional support needs aged 0-5, including those currently going through diagnosis, along with their parents and carers. We ask you to arrange a taster session, then decide if you want to become members to keep attending.

What is involved?

These sessions are designed to encourage learning through play. We introduce multi-sensory stories, books and rhymes to promote speech, language and communication. Our range of activities – messy play, arts and crafts, sensory experiences and adventurous play – promotes confidence, and stimulates children to experience different sensations.

During the school holidays, the sessions are more informal, and offer your children the chance to experience free adventure play.

For parents, this is an opportunity to relax and play with your children in a non-judgemental environment, surrounded by understanding staff and other parents with shared experiences.

Playing with parents, peers and our play team helps children learn to read social cues, the value of sharing and turn taking, and to develop their independence. Dynamic outdoor play is balanced with interactive musical sessions, arts and crafts, messy and sensory play.
