Looking for a way to raise funds for The Yard that doesn't involve any training? One of our superstar dads, Ralph, shares why he has decided to take part in the 2020 Forth Bridge abseil. Ralph told us:

"My name is Ralph Bowman and my eldest son, Iain, is a member at The Yard.  We try to attend The Yard Fife family sessions every weekend we can. Iain and his brother get the opportunity to play in a safe environment that is non-judgemental about their behaviours.  As parents, we get to relax and talk with other parents as well as the excellent staff who are there at the weekends.

I wanted to do something different to try and raise funds for The Yard.  Having seen the Kiltwalk last year, it got me thinking about how I could help and what I could do.  Abseiling off the iconic Forth Bridge isn’t an opportunity that many people get to do so being able to do that and raise money is a good combination.  Plus, there is little to no training involved, so even I can get on board with that!

I’m looking forward to being scared witless about doing it.  I’m looking forward to doing a little bit for a great organisation.  I’m looking forward to the view. I’m looking forward to supporting the other abseilers fundraising for The Yard (and other charities too). Most of all, I’m looking forward to getting my feet back on the ground and having a celebratory pint.

It’ll be fun and it’s for a great cause - delivering a fantastic space to children with disabilities and their families across Edinburgh, Fife and Tayside.”

The 2020 Forth Bridge Abseil takes place on Sunday 10th May. You can sign up by emailing [email protected] or you can sign up directly through the South Queensferry Rotary Club website.
