Brew and Bake volunteer As volunteer, you can gain new experiences and insights, and learn new and transferable skills, whilst knowing you are making a valuable contribution. On a Sunday all families are welcome to The Yard from 10-4pm. Our Sunday Funday service costs £6 for two hours and all money raised goes back into our services for disabled children Monday – Saturday. As part of the day, we also have coffee, tea, cakes and savoury snacks available in our kitchen and we would love some volunteers to help us out in this role. This role is for all the keen bakers that are interested in giving up a little more time to help The Yard develop its Brew and Bake initiative during Sunday Funday. What activities will this role involve? Commit to at least two Brew and Bake dates over the course of the year. Research and promote our Brew and Bake through social media and your local network/community to help find new groups or individuals to take part. Help the Sunday Funday team with any new suggestions for theming ideas. What skills and ability will I need to fulfil this role? A keen interest in baking/cooking. Passion and enthusiasm for The Yard and the services we provide. Likes being creative and meeting new people. How much time will I need to offer? The time commitment can be flexible but this role would involve volunteering a couple Sundays a year. Where will I be based? The Yard in Edinburgh What are the benefits to me? Getting more involved in a local charity and helping us continue to provide a fun and safe place for disabled children to play and make friends. Having fun! Keeping active and involved with like-minded and inspiring people in the community. Meeting new people and engaging with new families on a Sunday. What ongoing learning and support/guidance will I receive? It is important to us that you feel part of The Yard community and we want you to feel confident, happy and safe in your volunteering role. You will be invited to come along to a short induction that will cover the basics on Health and Safety, Child Protection, Data Protection. Our fundraising team will be in regular contact and will meet you as often as is needed to provide support and guidance. Training and support relevant to this role will be available and will be reviewed on a regular bases. What are the benefits to The Yard families? Having a volunteer in the kitchen will allow our families to feel welcomed and relaxed. Sunday Funday has continued to grow and it is now a vital fundraising and awareness tool for The Yard. Brew and Bake raises vital funds to contribute to the day and gives The Yard a lovely community atmosphere for all our families. Is there anything else I should know? You have to be at least 16 years old to apply for this role. We will pay your out of pocket expenses in line with The Yard’s volunteer policy.
